This cassette deck is a performance-oriented model that comes with a compact remote control unit. Although it is a 2-head unit, its performance rivals some 3-head cassette decks (see the specifications at the bottom of the page). In fact, using metal tapes you would be hardpressed to tell recordings apart from the originals because the response accomodates the entire frequency range of compact discs. Recordings are very detailed yet noise-free and retain virtually all the impact of their sources.
The condition of this machine is operationally and cosmetically excellent. Recent test recordings using music and swept sine wave test tones reveal that this unit effortlessly meets it published specifications. Nothing about its operation and performance leaves listeners the impression that there is too much or too little of anything. There are absolutely no scratches on the unit.
13-Segment Peak-Level Meters
These meters are supplemented by indicators that show
recommended recording levels for normal (Type I),
high-bias/chrome (Type II), & metal (Type IV) tape.
Bias Adjustment Control
This control is used to optimize the high frequency/treble
response of virtually any tape during recording.
Play Trim Adjustment
The play trim adjustment is a very rare feature used to adjust
high-treble response during playback. This can be used to
restore high-treble loss resulting from playback of recordings
made on other machines or it can be used to compensate for
less-than-ideal bias settings during recording.
Dual-Gap Ferrite Erase Head
The use of ferrite as a head material together with a special
head gap design ensures thorough erasure of tape containing strong
treble signals.
Amorphous Record/Play Head
Praised for its performance characteristics, this special
head in the Yamaha KX-330 is protected with 12-layers of
lamination for extended head life.
Dolby B & C Noise Reduction
This circuitry ensures low-noise recordings and compatibility with
other high quality cassette machines.
Dolby HX Pro headroom extension
Although this circuitry isn't used to reduce noise, it
enables cassettes, especially normal and high-bias/chrome tape, to
better reproduce high-level high-treble sounds such as high
hats and cymbals.
MPX Filter
This filter ensures proper Dolby circuitry operation
during recordings of FM broadcasts by filtering out
high-treble above 15 Khz.
2-Motor Transport
The use of separate motors for the hubs and captan dramatically increase long-term
reliability and speed consistency.
Intro Scan
This feature gives listeners a 15-second sample of each song in forward
or reverse order.
Music Search
Music search automatically finds any song on tape.
"O-M"/Block Repeat
A rare feature in cassette machines, this one
repeats any portion of a tape 8 times.
Full Repeat
This feature is used to repeat the entire side of a cassette
up to 8 times.
Memory Function
This feature memorizes any specific location on tape.
Record Return
Users who record often will appreciate this feature which rewinds
to the beginning of your last recording session.
Timer Record & Play
When attached to an audio timer the KX-330 can be used
for unattended recording or playback, much like a VCR.
Automatic Playback
When the "AUTO MODE" switch is set to "FULL" cassettes
automatically begin playback after the rewinding process
completes.
Headphone Jack
Listeners can enjoy private listening without the use of a
separate receiver or amplifier.
Detachable Aluminum Door
The aluminum door can easily be removed for routine head and transport
cleaning and demagnetization. Re-attachment is a simple snap-on motion.
Aluminum Front Panel and Enclosure
Unlike many other modern cassette machines this one is very well-built.
The use of plastic parts for construction is kept to a minimum.
Compact Remote Control Unit
The Yamaha KX-330 also comes with a compact wireless remote unit
which contains nearly all the aforementioned convenience features
and operates across a 30 degree angle from very long distances.
Users can actually aim the remote away from the unit while operating
it.
